BRONX LACROSSE
Bronx Lacrosse, a non-profit after-school program for underserved youth, is getting a new home for its offices and student activity space. The design features a large multipurpose space for conducting youth activities, flexible workstations for staff and volunteers, executive offices, meeting rooms, and support spaces. The layout is arranged to maximize visibility and transparency, fostering collegiality and teamwork.
Inspired by the lacrosse sport and its unique playing gear, the design concept and materials pay homage to the iconic game. The multipurpose space is envisioned as the open "field" where most of the instruction and activities take place. The lobby, awards wall, and the meeting room are defined by custom overhead mesh panels, referencing the structure of the lacrosse stick and goal net. The overall materials and finishes are simple and modest, conveying a youthful aesthetic and sense of playfulness.
